Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo was prominently linked to Manchester United during the transfer window.
Manchester United did announce a deal for a centre-back on transfer deadline day, with a one-year deal handed to veteran Jonny Evans.
Todibo stays at Nice
Nice were preparing for a big offer from Manchester United for their star centre-back, with Footmercato reporting they had even lined up a replacement.
No offer came, and Todibo stayed put. He is quite content to be staying at Nice, he has admitted.
Quoted by Maxifoot, the defender said: “I’m very happy to have stayed honestly. Staying in Nice was one of the options, I’m very happy here.
MORE UNITED STORIES
“The club has brought me a lot. I had opportunities elsewhere. I listened to them like any human being. “would have done, it was very good opportunities. But staying in Nice suits me wonderfully, it’s great for me, I feel good here.”
Todibo was also approached by Saudi Pro League clubs and turned them down, GFFN reported.
Todbo has been called into the France international squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures, L’Equipe report.
Manchester United are expected to continue to monitor him with a view to a future transfer, along with a multitude of other defensive targets.
His international form could play a part. He will get the chance to step into Raphael Varane’s shoes, and if he can solidify a role as a first choice for his country, it will be an indication that he could be ready for a similar step at Old Trafford, when United have the funds to make a move happen.
