Zaha likely to miss United v Palace clash

Wilfried Zaha had probably his best ever career game against Manchester United last September.

Since leaving Old Trafford, Zaha has often been on the losing team when Palace have taken on United, notably in the 2016 FA Cup final.

Last September he finally had his moment, scoring twice in a 3-1 win against a flat United team.

It is a positive for United then, that Zaha could miss this upcoming midweek game at Selhurst Park.

Zaha has been out of action with a thigh injury since February 2; and the match against United could come too soon for him.

PremierInjuries.com list Zaha’s potential return date as next weekend against Tottenham; not the United game.

Roy Hodgson told the club website when asked if Zaha could feature, “I doubt it, unfortunately. I think we have to wait.”

Zaha is having his best season for a while, scoring nine of Palace’s 29 goals so far this season.

United have a point to prove

The early season defeat against Palace was a terrible one from United’s perspective.

We were outplayed on the day by a sharper team, with our lack of rest and preparation quite clearly exposed.

It was a defeat which set in motion a poor start to the season which United have done well to recover from since.

While it feels disappointing to be 12 points behind City right now, if you had said after that opening weekend defeat that United would be in second place after 26 games, we almost certainly have taken it.

Palace are coming off a 0-0 draw at the weekend themselves, against Fulham, and sit in 13th place, 10 points clear of the relegation zone and just four back from 10th placed Arsenal.

United’s last visit to Selhurst Park came back in July, a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
