Who could Manchester United face in the Champions League last 16?

After the dispiriting defeat at Anfield, United fans are not full of hope for Champions League success right now.
Nevertheless, this morning’s draw at 11am in Switzerland will dictate who United play against in the last 16.
The defeat to Valencia last week meant United qualified as group runners-up, when Juventus’ surprise loss handed us an opportunity to win the group.
A look at the potential teams we could face highlights what an missed opportunity it was.

Here is a look at the teams Manchester United could face…

Potential opponents

Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Porto, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid
The best case scenario would be to face Porto, although we can take nothing for granted.
United have had mixed experiences against the Portuguese club before, and perhaps defeat would see Jose Mourinho’s management career come full circle after he knocked us out of the competition in 2004.
Borussia Dortmund would also be an acceptable outcome, but lets face it, at the moment many of these teams will be happy to face United too.

Any of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG or Real Madrid would be seriously tough.

Barcelona and PSG are the most fearsome of the two right now, and the ones who United probably have little chance against.
Whatever happens we need to enjoy it because the way this campaign is going, there won’t be Champions League football to look forward to at Old Trafford next season.
