Manchester United may not have got back to winning ways this weekend, but the result was more positive.

Were it not for another David de Gea mistake, the Red Devils would have beaten Chelsea 1-0. Instead, a finish in the top four is now out of their hands.

But on a more positive note, Ander Herrera returned to the starting XI and made his mark.

Along with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, the Spaniard was integral during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s early months at the helm. And United fans will be hoping they can return to winning ways for the final two games of an eventful season.

That could be bad news for Fred, however. After all, the £47million signing (BBC) will be behind that trio and Scott McTominay.

In short, we may not see the Brazilian in action again this season.

Fred may have had a belated run in the starting XI in recent weeks, but he has had little to celebrate.

He was on the losing side in six of his last eight starts; not the kind of form that justifies his price-tag or suggests better things to come.

It may take the 26-year-old a season to settle at Old Trafford. After all, Victor Lindelof faltered when he first signed for United, as have many others.

But, with wholesale changes expected this summer, there is a chance Fred may have played his last game for United already.
