Manchester United are reportedly set to retread the path of past mistakes by returning to Borussia Dortmund in an attempt to resolve their midfield issues.
Despite recent high profile examples of transfers from the German side that haven’t worked out, Jose Mourinho has apparently earmarked Christian Pulisic and Julian Weigl as two players who will provide the required quality to improve his midfield.
Paul Pogba’s infrequent availability has exposed a lack of strength aside from Nemanja Matic; Marouane Fellaini has played well but is not a long term solution while Ander Herrera has been badly out of sorts. It has left United short in those areas in big games.
Both players have been linked with a move to Real Madrid; Weigl has impressed since joining Dortmund in 2015 while Pulisic is a very highly rated American prospect.
