Hakim Ziyech is one of the most prolific creative players in Europe and is a player Manchester United need to have a close eye on.

Last night he was superb for Ajax once again, inspiring a Champions League victory away at Lille.

He scored the opening goal and then set up a second with a wonderful weighted pass for Quincy Promes to score.

His numbers this season are astounding. Ziyech now has 14 assists and seven goals already.

These include four assists and two goals in five Champions League matches.

The 26-year-old is exactly the type of player United are missing. Not moving for him in the summer was clearly an error, and it is unclear if United have plans to correct this in January.

On a day where assistant boss Mike Phelan made a joke about United finding a flying winger, perhaps he should have been keeping an eye on Ziyech.

United supporters were, with several commenting on Twitter to laud Ziyech and call for the club to snap him up.

Meanwhile…

Another top United transfer target was on the scoresheet again last night.

Erling Haaland started on the bench for Red Bull Salzburg against Genk, before coming on to play his part in a 4-1 away win.

Haaland provided an assist with almost his first touch, before scoring a thumping goal from inside the penalty area as the game reached the final stages.

This was his 27th goal of the season and he has eight goals in five Champions League matches, netting in every one of them. He has Liverpool up next.

United target Jadon Sancho also had an eventful evening at the Nou Camp.

He was left out of Borussia Dortmund’s starting line up, with coach Lucien Favre quoted by The Sun: “We need players on the pitch who are focused and ready.”

Dortmund were well beaten by Barcelona, but not before they brought Sancho on and saw him score a superb goal.

Sancho’s impressive effort was just a consolation in a 3-1 loss. The drama over his future will continue. He will feel like he proved a point.
