In the midst of a busy stretch of fixtures, transfer speculation regarding Manchester United continues to ramp up.
Two players linked with a move are Jadon Sancho and Thomas Partey.
Both of these would be elite additions to the United team and would have fans dreaming – perhaps unrealistically – of a title challenge next season.
United need both a winger and a defensive midfielder, and Sancho and Partey should be arguably top choice in each area.
So let’s delve into the latest reports…
What’s being said: The Telegraph are once again reporting today that United are frontrunners for Jadon Sancho.
The Borussia Dortmund prodigy is enjoying a superb campaign with 14 goals and 14 assists so far.
It is claimed that Sancho’s reported wage demands of £200,000 per week would be a formality as far as United are concerned. The big challenge is agreeing a fee with the German side.
What’s the competition: United are said at this point to be in the lead in the chase for the England international and are making the most running.
Chelsea and Liverpool are both said to be keen, and each are currently in position to offer Champions League football next season, which could be decisive.
What do we think? It’s a good sign United are making the early move for Sancho as it will cause him to look on us favourably.
Even so, we made the early running for Erling Haaland and it ended up counting for nothing.
Honestly, we wouldn’t read much into the latest reports at all. It’s unlikely Sancho will be moving before May at the earliest.
What’s being said? Speculation linking Partey to United is far more speculative.
It stems from Spanish outlet Cadena Ser which claims two Premier League clubs used to paying £80 million on defenders has been in touch.
It’s pretty obvious United are one of the sides taking a look at the Atletico Madrid midfielder.
What’s the competition: Liverpool also fit the bill and they can’t have failed to be interested in him after his impressive display against them, but they also have Fabinho in the position.
Arsenal are said to be very keen on the Ghanaian international, Spanish paper Libertad Digital claim.
What do we think? The links to United are sketchy at best and there is even less reason to get carried away here as there is with Sancho.
However Partey is one of the top defensive midfielders in world football and would be an unbelievable signing as a replacement for Nemanja Matic.
With a release clause of just £42 million, a deal might not be too complicated to pull off.
As with Sancho, the deciding factor will be Champions League qualification, as Partey could simply choose to stay put at Atletico or take a better offer.
