Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has conducted his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s first game of the Premier League season.

The briefing was streamed at 1.30pm on Friday on United’s official app as well as the club website.

He was asked about Anthony Martial’s future, amid the latest reports on his future this week.

Solskjaer said he has no intention of letting Martial leave this summer.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if other teams targeted Anthony [Martial] because he is a very, very good player,” said Solskjaer when asked about reports that Martial is on the shopping list of other clubs.

“He’s back strong, hungry with a determination to prove his fitness and his quality. Last season was difficult and disappointing for him. You can see that grit between his teeth again; he is up for the challenge.

“He is a Man United player and we are happy that we have him. I’ve got no plans whatsoever for Anthony to play against us. He has proven the doubters wrong so many times.”

Martial needs a big season after a disappointing campaign last time around.

It would be wise not to put too much pressure on the Frenchman right from the start of the season.

A goal tomorrow against Leeds would do his confidence the world of good.

But the most important thing is that he’s fit again, and has the bit between his teeth.

Hopefully the arrival of Jadon Sancho and continued improvement from Mason Greenwood pushes Martial on again, and he clearly has Solskjaer’s backing.
