Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been asked about whether Michael Carrick could remain at Old Trafford as Manchester United’s next permanent head coach.
The Manchester United manager role has been vacant since January after Ruben Amorim’s 14-month Red Devils reign at the Premier League club came to an end.
Ineos installed Michael Carrick in the Old Trafford hot seat as interim head coach and the former United midfielder has had a major impact at the Red Devils.
Carrick has overseen 10 Premier League wins from 15 matches in the second half of the 2025-26 campaign amid the Red Devils climbing into the top four.

Michael Carrick has effectively mounted a top-four Premier League challenge and ensured that Manchester United will return to the Champions League.
The 44-year-old United legend has defied all expectations after sparking a major turnaround in form at the Red Devils since Ruben Amorim’s Old Trafford exit.
Carrick has emerged as one candidate to succeed Amorim on a permanent basis in the summer, with the likes of Luis Enrique and Andoni Iraola both linked as well.
Speaking to The Times, Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe cryptically left the door open for Ineos to make Carrick the next permanent manager at the Premier League club.
“For whatever reason, we didn’t see it before Christmas, but Michael has brought out the best,” he said.

Ratcliffe and his Ineos regime now face a real challenge in deciding whether to look for another managerial pick or stick with Carrick for the immediate future.
