Manchester United need a natural striker and they have been linked with Moussa Dembele, but could his compatriot Odsonne Edouard, who is in red hot form, be a cheaper option?
Celtic’s talisman Edouard could follow in the footsteps of Dembele, who secured a big money European move from the Scottish giants to Lyon.
Former Rangers and Scotland striker Kris Boyd is a huge fan of Edouard and has tipped him to reach the very top, Boyd told the Scottish Sun last week that he believes that the Frenchman would be a good fit for United.
There could be a space in United’s squad for both Dembele and Edouard, but here is a look at why Edouard would be a good signing for Solskjaer’s side.
At the age of 21, Edouard has his best form and peak years ahead of him, something that will make him an intriguing acquisition for Solskjaer.
The Norwegian is building a young side, who will all hopefully gel together and get the club challenging for major honours once again in the coming years.
Edouard would join an exciting crop of talented forwards after Solskjaer opted to part ways with the club’s previous marquee signings Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.
The former Paris Saint Germain man will know that he will eventually need to move on from Celtic if he wishes to play at a higher level, but Neil Lennon will not want to part ways with Edouard cheaply.
Loves to score goals
Edouard has already racked up 17 club appearances in all competitions this season, he has scored 10 goals and registered 6 assists in those matches.
In 99 games for Celtic, Edouard has scored 43 times and made 18 assists. Dembele played 94 times for The Bhoys, the Lyon striker netted 51 times and produced 18 assists.
In four matches for the French Under-21 side, Edouard has already scored an astonishing 9 goals in just 4 games, but if he has aspirations of breaking into the senior national side, scoring goals for United would aid his cause.
Edouard is a powerful striker, who possesses the ability to finish with both feet, get in behind defences with his pace and score headers from crosses. He can hurt teams in many ways and he comes alive in the penalty area.
He also has quick feet, which helps him to lose defenders and create a shooting opportunity from long-range. The 21-year-old also has the vision and awareness to create chances for his team mates.
Lyon have reportedly valued Dembele at £52m (60m Euros), whereas Edouard could be available for around £30m.
Money might not be an issue for United, but Edouard could prove to be a real coup. He is well worthy of consideration.
