Manchester United continue to be linked with former star Cristiano Ronaldo; new reports suggest that Real Madrid are asking for United’s top scorer in return.

You read that right – Madrid, according to the Daily Star, have suggested that they received Romelu Lukaku as part of any prospective transfer.

The report is here:

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly has an offer on the table from former club United.

The Portugal international hinted that he could leave the Bernabeu in the aftermath of Real’s Champions League triumph over Liverpool.

And according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, his agent Jorge Mendes is now ready to bring him back to Old Trafford.

United boss Jose Mourinho has set his sights on the 32-year-old forward as he looks to cut the gap on Premier League champions Manchester City.

But Mourinho could lose star striker Romelu Lukaku.

Diario Gol add that Real president Florentino Perez could look to land the Belgian forward as a bargaining chip.

United’s interest in Ronaldo is long-standing with it being no surprise that they would be interested should the legendary forward decide to leave Spain. His annual protracted saga for a new contract is well and truly underway with nobody really expecting that he will leave. Madrid, however, may note their star man’s advancing years and think that the time is right in an hyper-inflated market to cash in.

One would think in that case they would seek a straight cash deal so that they could pursue a marquee replacement. Lukaku did a fine job in his first season at United but hardly fits the bill in that regard.
