Pochettino has been out of work for 12 months after leaving Tottenham.

He has been a long term target of United and was previously unavailable when United wanted to hire him.

He declared he was ready to return to football in an appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football this week.

United’s next game is against Everton on Saturday. Even a win may not be enough to save Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Amid the report United have now reached out to Pochettino, it seems the writing is on the wall.
