Pogba helps Manchester United under-18s to kickstart season

Paul Pogba has been getting involved with Manchester United’s under-18 side despite uncertainty surrounding his future.

Former-United captain Patrice Evra has started coaching with the under-18s side as he works towards his badges. Pogba has been in attendance at the last two games.

The Frenchman came through the academy system himself, signing for United at the age of 16 before developing quickly into one of the club’s most exciting talents. He then infamously left on a free transfer to Juventus before re-signing for a world-record fee.

Pogba is great friends with Evra and so it makes sense that he’s watched on. But after United’s heavy defeat to Derby County two weekends ago, Pogba reportedly spoke to the players after. The Reds had conceded five goals and Pogba was keen to give them encouragement.

As one of the best players in the world and someone who came through the system, there are few people who could be more inspiring to the current generation.

Emeran and Mejbri learning from Pogba

Pogba will be a particular motivator to three players in United’s youth sides. Two Frenchman were brought in this summer. Hannibal Mejbri signed for €10million from AS Monaco while Noam Emeran arrived, too.

Mejbri spoke about how excited he was to even see Pogba around the training ground, let alone receive advice from him at matches.

“We share the same training facilities and the gym as the first team, I am going to often be able to rub shoulders with Pogba and Martial.”

Noam Emeran, meanwhile, was spotted in conversation with Pogba and Evra while on the bench on Saturday. Such moments are invaluable for improvement but mainly motivation.

It remains possible that Pogba will leave United next summer, with Real Madrid still keen on bringing him to the Bernabeu.

Despite that, there is a clear element of love for the club from Pogba. When he re-signed in 2016, he spoke about missing Manchester, missing the staff he had worked with as a teenager. Even in the minds of the most talented and elite footballers, homeliness can play a part.

Having his friend Evra coaching will contribute to any decision, though the influence of superagent Mino Raiola will always play against United in Pogba’s future.

For the under-18s, meanwhile, it’s a huge boost and as United continue to compete with City, Liverpool and Chelsea for youth signings, it’s another attraction.
