Scott McTominay was Manchester United’s best player in a narrow 1-0 loss to Barcelona.
United suffered a disappointing home defeat in which we failed to register a shot on target.
Despite that, the performance was encouraging, and we came back from a bigger deficit to beat PSG.
In midfield Scott McTominay was excellent in a box to box role, showing some silky touches which at times left Barcelona players left for dust.
BT Sport pundit and former United star Owen Hargreaves praised the young Scot’s performance.
He said: “For a young man to be the best player on the pitch when Fred cost £50m, Pogba cost £90m, it’s quite exceptional.”
McTominay did show up his more expensive teammates, and a few of Barcelona’s stars too.
He has been turning his reputation around after his confidence was trashed by Jose Mourinho earlier in the season.
United was without Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic in midfield, but McTominay was no downgrade at all.
It looks like United have found a big player and this evening was confirmation of his impressive progress in recent weeks.
Now he has to play even better in Barcelona next week.
