Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly prioritised the signing of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, according to reports.
Mourinho’s desire to have an upgrade in that area has been no secret, with the veteran Ashley Young filling the position with some style in recent weeks. However, the need for a long-term, top class player in that role is obvious, and United have been linked to Spurs’ Danny Rose since pre-season.
Luke Shaw made an impressive case for a recall with his performance against CSKA Moscow but it remains likely that such a selection was as much for his own shop window.
And long-time Mourinho apologist, journalist Duncan Castles, reports that the man the United boss wants is in fact the player generally agreed to be the best in the world in that position – Alex Sandro.
Castles reports that United may have to pay a world record fee for a defender but adds that he is Mourinho’s ‘number one’ target.
