Manchester United need a technical director with more experience than Evra
Manchester United are looking to appoint a technical director for the first time in the club’s history.
Ed Woodward has been watching recent matches alongside former United defender Patrice Evra. These things are both true and has led some fans to put two and two together.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, these supporters have come up with five. They report that Evra and Woodward are just friends ‘catching up’ as opposed to him being schmoozed ahead of a return to Old Trafford.
More experience needed
As popular as Evra is with United fans, the new job needs someone with much more experience of negotiating transfers, managing egos and working with the expectations of a huge football club.
It is absolutely not the place for a 37-year-old who has not yet even retired from football to be cutting his teeth.
It could reasonably be argued that everyone in the positions of power at Old Trafford; Woodward, Jose Mourinho and the Glazers are all out of their depth and the last thing United need is another figure added to the mix who does not have the requisite experience.
Emotion cannot come into it
It would be wonderful if United was infused with club legends to turn fortunes around; the Class of 92 in charge of the team, Evra in the board room with Edwin van der Sar overseeing academy matters.
But at this moment in time, these figures do not have the experience required and eventually, making decisions out of sentiment will cost the club and set them even further back. Look at how bringing Kenny Dalglish back to Liverpool worked out…
