Fred made his first appearance of the season for Manchester United in the 1-0 win over Leicester.

Prior to this game he had not even been on the bench, and may only have got the nod on Saturday due to injuries.

Even so, he made the most of his chance, impressing in his cameo performance off the bench.

Fred replaced Nemanja Matic in the 67th minute, with United already 1-0 up through Marcus Rashford’s eighth minute penalty.

He gave United’s midfield a lift at a key time, adding a spark to the midfield which was previously lacking.

In his brief spell on the pitch he worked hard, winning one tackle, making one interception, and making three clearances.

United not signing any midfielders in the summer worked in his favour, and now his chance has come.

The Brazilian appeared keen to make up for lost time, and his efforts should have locked in a start in the Europa League against Astana on Thursday.

The 2018 signing has so much more to give for United after a mixed first season, and this was a step in the right direction.
