Fred was a notable recall to Manchester United’s starting line up last night against Crystal Palace.

It was the Brazilian’s first game since the FA Cup win over Reading, and first Premier League game since December’s win over Huddersfield.

His selection did not harm United, winning 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Romelu Lukaku (2) and Ashley Young grabbed the goals.

Fred began the game nervously, giving the ball away on a number of occasions.

He improved as the match went on, having a better second half than his first.

He was substituted in the 90th minute for teenager James Garner.

Garner could be in contention to replace Fred against Southampton this weekend, with Solskjaer talking him up after the game.

This was just Fred’s eighth Premier League start of the season, and the first time he has played over 64 minutes of a match since October.

Fred had one shot at goal, which landed off target. He created two goalscoring opportunities.

He had 73 touches, more than any United midfielder, completing 84.5 per cent of his passes.

Defensively he managed three tackles and one interception, giving away one foul.
