Manchester United had to work hard to break down a talented Leicester City side in a battle to clinch a top four place.

United won the game 2-0 with two second half goals, and the result mean Leicester finished in fifth place.

One of Leicester’s best players on the day was defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

Ndidi was a player claimed by The Express in June to be on United’s radar.

It is a deal which perhaps has a chance now, with United able to offer Champions League football to the Nigerian midfielder.

Whether a move is likely or not, United supporters were impressed by Ndidi’s performance…

Perfect Matic replacement?

It has been clear over the past few weeks that United need to concentrate on finding a long term replacement for Nemanja Matic.

Ndidi is ideal. He has two-and-a-half seasons’ Premier League experience and is only 23.

This season he tops the Premier League midfield rankings for tackles won, with an average of four per game.

Against United on Sunday, Ndidi won five tackles and made two interceptions. He also made three successful dribbles and won two aerial duels.

He is one of the Leicester players whose performance levels have not dropped over the past few weeks, and he made life hard for both Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to find enough space to break Leicester down.

United’s transfer business will be initially concentrated elsewhere, more specifically on signing a right winger.

If after that, the opportunity to sign Ndidi crops up, this would be an excellent move for United to make, and sign a young defensive midfielder of proven quality.
