Manchester United a ‘confident’ of getting a deal for Raphael Varane done, report The MEN.

Varane is on his holidays at present after France’s involvement at Euro 2020.

A decision on his future is expected shortly and United are hopeful of winning the race.

The MEN report: “Varane’s preference is to head straight to Manchester following his holiday, rather than have to return to Real Madrid for any pre-season training.”

Down to United’s negotiators

This is very encouraging and United’s confidence regarding this deal will not have come from thin air. The club have been in touch with Varane’s representatives.

The tricky part is agreeing a deal with Real Madrid, with the two clubs apart on fees.

United were looking to pay around £50 million for Varane but Real wanted more.

Real’s hand is a weak one however. Varane has just 12 months remaining on his contract and his desire to leave is going to force the issue.

If he really is reluctant to return to pre-season with Real then this transfer could get sped up over the coming fortnight.

Time is starting to tick down for United now with some players already returning for pre-season.

The first friendly match takes place on Sunday against Derby County, and the opening Premier League game is held on August 14.

United do have until the deadline of August 31 to get players in, but this year it feels like deals will not be left until the last minute.

Varane’s reported desire to head to Manchester as soon as possible bodes well. Now it is up to the club’s negotiating team.
