Manchester United’s Europa League draw with LASK Linz was met with quick reactions of bemusement and Google searches among fans looking to find out more about our last 16 opponents.

All you need to know is here about the side who are ahead of Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga and knocked out United’s group stage foes AZ Alkmaar in the previous round.

The reaction at LASK to drawing United was very different, as reported by Austrian newspaper Krone.

United may have dropped off in terms of success, but our reputation abroad remains one of an elite club.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Player and manager excited

LASK coach Valerei Ismael said: “Manchester United is one of the best teams in the world. We have an unbelievable highlight ahead of us.”

His comments were echoed by goalkeeper Alexander Schlager, who said: “Manchester United is an absolute top club. With this, a childhood dream will come true. As always, we have to do our best.”

Ismael added that he is hopeful his team will put up a good fight.

He said: “Our first goal for the first leg is to give us a good starting position for the return match.”

Knowledge can work to their advantage

United are known and talked about around the world and the LASK players will be aware exactly who the team are, along with the team’s strengths and weaknesses.

Getting to know the LASK players won’t be so straightforward to United’s team.

The coaching staff will do their research and try and pass this along to the players, but there is only so much they can soak up about the unfamiliar opponents ahead of the game.

United are clear favourites to win and reach the quarter-finals. But LASK are capable of putting up a fight, and underestimating them would be our biggest mistake.
