Wayne Rooney has named the “very important signing” that Manchester United have made out of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Ruben Amorim has seen a major overhaul of his attacking front three with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo at Old Trafford.

Cunha was the first to arrive at United out of the aforementioned trio of summer signings after the Red Devils triggered his £62.5m release clause at Wolves.

Following United’s stunning acquisition of Cunha in June, the Red Devils were involved in a long-drawn-out summer pursuit for former Brentford star Mbeumo.

United finally added Mbeumo to Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad in July after the Red Devils paid an initial fee of £65m to land the ex-Bees ace from Brentford.

The Red Devils completed their third high-profile signing of the summer transfer window in August after United landed Sesko from RB Leipzig ahead of Newcastle.

Wayne Rooney delivers powerful verdict on Man Utd summer signings Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo

Following Manchester United’s signing of Benjamin Sesko last Saturday, the Red Devils rolled out the red carpet for their new summer signings at Old Trafford.

Sesko took to the Old Trafford pitch alongside Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon and the four players were presented to United fans on the weekend.

The unveiling of the aforementioned Red Devils quartet was done ahead of United’s penalty shootout win over Fiorentina in their final pre-season match of the summer.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Wayne Rooney hailed United for signing Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko as part of a new-look attack for Ruben Amorim.

However, the 39-year-old United legend admitted that he feels that former RB Leipzig striker Sesko is a “really important signing” ahead of Mbeumo and Cunha.

“Yeah, you would hope so [addressing the goalscoring problem],” Rooney said.

“It was something which was very much needed.

“I think it’s great that they identified the players that they wanted quite early and obviously they got Cunha in and Mbeumo in and then… I think getting Sesko is a really important signing.”

What England legend Wayne Rooney said about Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko speaks volumes

Sesko took part in United training on Sunday and the 22-year-old Slovenian forward could make his hotly anticipated debut in the Premier League opener vs Arsenal.

BBC pundit Rooney singled out former Newcastle target Sesko and highlighted his core strengths, including the United summer signing being a bona fide “target man.”

When discussing Sesko, he added: “I think as a target man, a No 9, he’s quick, he can use both feet, he’s good in the air.

“I think that’s a very important signing for Manchester United.”

United are back in action this Sunday and the Red Devils host 2024-25 Premier League runners-up Arsenal at Old Trafford, with kick-off at 4:30pm UK time.
