This Manchester United is crying out for a world class winger and one of the very best has just reportedly become available.
Barcelona have put Ousmane Dembele up for transfer, report The Mail.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all claimed to be keen. United can’t pass by on the opportunity to sign Dembele, whatever the cost.
The winger is only 21 and looks in need of a move after failing to win over the Barcelona support.
This comes after an early injury last season. Despite this, Dembele still has a creditable nine goals and nine assists in 35 games, many of which have been as a substitute.
At Barcelona he was always up against it, signed as Neymar’s replacement for a whopping £135.5 million. The big move just came too early for him, like Memphis Depay’s at United.
Dembele’s move followed a breakout season at Dortmund where he scored 10 times and provided 22 assists in 50 games.
United would likely get him at a discount on the inflated fee Barcelona paid, although no player ever comes ‘cheap’ when the Red Devils are involved.
The French connection
Dembele’s talent and age is not the only thing working in his favour. His nationality makes him an intriguing option.
He could link up with compatriots Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, forming a dynamic trio which would terrorise opponents.
Dembele’s arrival at Old Trafford would likely enhance Pogba and Martial’s desire to stay put, and the three players could become the cornerstones of United and France’s future success over the next decade.
