Could Manchester United's Timothy Fosu-Mensah have a role to play under Solskjaer?
Manchester United have high hopes for Timothy Fosu-Mensah. So they will be disappointed that he has struggled at loan club Fulham.
After a promising spell with Crystal Palace last season, the young Dutchman will have been hoping to kick on this time round. However, he has barely featured since Claudio Ranieri arrived at Craven Cottage.
As a consequence, the Times claims the 21-year-old wants to leave Fulham for another temporary stint elsewhere.
But could there be an alternative that would help out his parent club? After all, United may not be able to bring in a new centre-back this month.
And, if that is the case, Fosu-Mensah could step in.
While Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo remain injured, United can only call on Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and (the currently suspended) Eric Bailly.
Matteo Darmian proved against Reading that he is not good enough at centre-back, so Fosu-Mensah could be a useful addition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The interim United boss is not afraid to give youth a chance. So, if Fosu-Mensah returns from Fulham, a stay at Old Trafford could be better than a third loan spell in quick succession.
