Manchester United travel to face bitter rivals Arsenal for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup tonight.
The famous old competition has become a place for heavy squad rotation in recent years, but with two of the country’s big six going head to head in a tournament that perhaps represents the most realistic chance of silverware for both this season, it will be interesting to see how both managers approach it.
For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the match represents another huge test of his management as well as an opportunity to build even greater momentum if United get the win.
But how will he set up his team? We’ve predicted the eleven we think United will field at the Emirates…
Goalkeeper and back four
Sergio Romero has played a lot in cup competitions during his time at United, and he will continue after the MEN reported that David de Gea has not travelled.
Ashley Young at right back and Victor Lindelof inside him are almost nailed on – but there should be two changes as Luke Shaw returns from illness to replace Diogo Dalot at left back, with Eric Bailly coming in for Phil Jones.
Fred was the most impressive performer during a stodgy performance in the previous round against Reading, and if Solskjaer decides to freshen up his midfield, he could replace Ander Herrera or Nemanja Matic.
Paul Pogba is flying right now and should be given the opportunity to carry that on and make amends for the red card he picked up against the Gunners at the Emirates in the league last season
Solskjaer has promised a strong team will play at the Emirates, so it would be something of a surprise to see Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku rotated in like they were in the last round.
Jesse Lingard has scored in two of his last three games against Arsenal, and should line up alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the front three – with a fit again Alexis on the bench.
