When Jose Mourinho picked Andreas Pereira for Manchester United’s opening game of the season, it seemed the Brazilian had finally broken through.
The 22-year-old did well in a 2-1 victory. But he was hauled off after 45 minutes against Brighton and has barely featured since.
Mourinho had hinted that Pereira would play a bigger role at Old Trafford this season. In fact, he was against the midfielder going out on loan in the previous campaign.
And yet, like so many of United’s players, he was made a scapegoat for one poor performance. While the likes of Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku stumbled from game to game, Pereira slipped out of the reckoning.
But now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the United hot seat. And Pereira can expect more chances to impress.

The youngster came off the bench in the 5-1 victory against Cardiff City.
With the games coming thick and fact, expect him to start sooner rather than later.
Mourinho failed to get the best out of Pereira but do not expect Solskjaer to make the same mistake.
United have some of the best young players in the country just waiting for their chance.
Now they have the manager to give them a stage.
