2020 is finally over and we enter a new start. For Manchester United, the new year begins with optimism.
One of the reasons for this alongside a promising Premier League position, is the excitement about incoming signing Amad Diallo.
United announced Diallo’s signing on deadline day, pending a work permit.
Right now, we are still waiting for the paperwork to all go through.
Could there be an announcement today?
It’s possible although unlikely. Today is a public holiday in the UK, which makes it less likely a move will be officially ratified by the Home Office. It may have to wait until next week.
There is still paper work to be checked off too.
While The Guardian reported Diallo has received his Italian passport, there are still a couple of issues needing to be checked off.
After obtaining his Italian passport, United have now applied to the FA for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE).
Once the FA sign this off, United have to formally apply for a work permit to the Home Office.
The Times report: “The process will take some time so United do not expect the winger to arrive on January 1.”
The good news is that Diallo will not need to quarantine because he is already in an ‘elite sports’ environment at Atalanta.
So what can we expect?
Diallo’s move will go through, eventually. It could be within the next few days.
The first announcement will either come via the club, or from Diallo’s Instagram page if he posts an update of him flying to Manchester.
His first game could be with the under-23s. The team’s first match is on January 18 against Leicester. There could be record viewing figures on MUTV for that one, such is the excitement and anticipation about Diallo’s ability.
