Manchester United need a new centre-back this summer.
But they do not need to break the bank to seal a deal.
Toby Alderweireld’s £25million summer clause (Guardian) means the Belgian should be their top target.
After all, there will be no defender with such experience and quality available for less.
So the Daily Star report claiming United could spend £90million on Harry Maguire makes no sense.
According to the report, Leicester City are asking for the massive sum for the 26-year-old.
Yet he is simply not in the same league as Alderweireld.
For £65million less, United would be getting a far better player.
Even with the four-year age difference, the decision is a no-brainer.

United are currently relying on Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling, but the latter should be replaced in a bid for long-term success.
With doubts remaining over the futures of Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo, United have a busy summer ahead.
Alderweireld would be a quick and easy solution.
He would also be accessible in a way that most quality players are not – especially ones that play for Tottenham.
Maguire is not a £90million player.
But conversely, Alderweireld is worth far more than £25million. So let’s ignore the rumour mill and hope United seal a deal for the latter as soon as possible.
