Raphael Varane has been pictured back in training after missing the weekend defeat to City with Covid.

Varane’s return is a big boost after the 4-1 defeat as United prepare to take on Tottenham this weekend.

Varane starred in United’s 3-0 win against Tottenham back in early November, shutting down Harry Kane.

We revealed earlier today how United’s unwanted record of conceding four goals in four league matches this season is the club’s worst record since 1970/71. And strikingly, Varane has not played in any of these games.

Getting the Frenchman back is going to be key to United’s chances this weekend.

Cavani and Ronaldo updates

Edinson Cavani was involved in full training today, the club website reports. This of course gives no guarantees he will be available at the weekend.

Cavani trained for three days last week and still did not report fit enough for the squad against City. Nonetheless, it is still good to learn he is back training.

Cristiano Ronaldo is still struggling with a hip injury. The United forward ‘trained separately’, the club website reports.

Ronaldo and Cavani both started against Tottenham last time out, with United playing a 3-5-2, with both strikers scoring. But rather than heralding the start of a successful new tactical tweak, the two players have not been able to replicate this since.

Both stars missed United’s loss to City last weekend, and United will be hoping at least one of them will be fit for this crucial Premier League fixture on Saturday night.
