Player Ratings: United 1-0 Bournemouth

Ratings from tonight’s game.
De Gea – 7 – had to be more alert than one might have expected with a string of first half saves.
Valencia – 5 – maybe it’s a case of too many games for the right-back, but fatigue or not, this was not one of the former Wigan man’s better outings.
Smalling – 6 – fine
Jones – 6 – like Smalling, fine, just about. The pair do little to inspire confidence and one watches their time on the ball with bated breath.
Shaw – 7 – seemed a little too eager to build on last week’s fine performance so in the first half it was a mixed bag. His second half, however, would surely have impressed his manager – there was a fine ball that Lukaku just failed to capitalise on and, probably most impressively of all, the left back got up and shrugged off two heavy challenges.
Matic – 6 – perhaps this is a case of getting too used to Matic’s consistency; maybe we are taking his quality for granted. Maybe, in that respect, a score of 6/10 is testament to him just getting on and doing his job.
McTominay – 6 – selected in place of Herrera and while that says much about the current state of United’s midfield options aside from Matic and Pogba, the youngster equipped himself well.
Mata – 6 – his accurate cross created the only goal but there was little else which stood out.
Lingard – 6 – the United homegrown player put in a solid shift but the performance did nothing to dispel recent comparisons to Ji-Sung Park. Like Park, Lingard seems suited to bigger games where he has a more defined instruction.
Martial – 6 – As always, there were some flashes of threat, but this was not Martial’s most brilliant night.
Lukaku – 6 – took his goal well but looked every inch a forward trying to regain his confidence
Subs :
Rashford – 7 – more of a threat down the side and almost scored with a stunning effort
Herrera – 6 – Steady
Young – too few minutes to rate.
