Manchester United's three best players against Chelsea

Manchester United were not good against Chelsea last night, managing to salvage a 1-1 draw.

But there were a few positives and reasons to be cheerful, with United at least managing not to lose.

A number of players were underwhelming, Marcus Rashford in particular. He completed just 12 passes on the night.

Fortunately there were enough bright spots for us to pick out there best players on the night…

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Cristiano Ronaldo

We are running out of superlatives for Cristiano Ronaldo. What he is doing for this team, at the age of 37, is quite astonishing.

Ronaldo took his goal like the expert marksman he is, making the most of his first real clear cut chance.

He put his younger teammates to shame, managing 57 touches in total, tracking back and working hard for the team, making two defensive clearances – the same as Raphael Varane.

Gary Neville described him as ‘absolutely incredible‘, while Ralf Rangnick said what Ronaldo is doing is ‘not normal‘.

Nemanja Matic

This was Nemanja Matic’s penultimate start at Old Trafford and he made he most of it, providing the assist for Ronaldo’s goal, against his former team.

Rangnick labelled him ‘top class‘ after the game, with the Serbian giving United some much needed drive through midfield.

He made two interceptions, two tackles and two clearances, also creating two goalscoring opportunities.

Matic will leave Old Trafford in a few weeks, with the club in need of a new defensive midfielder. If only he was 10 years younger, Matic is the prototype for what United need.

David de Gea

David de Gea was faultless against Chelsea, making a number of early saves to keep Manchester United in the game.

Early on in particular, he was exposed by the midfield and defence, before United began to get organised.

De Gea spoke to Sky before the game to say he had been ’embarrassed’ by the team at times this season, as have we all, so he needed to deliver against Chelsea. Fortunately he did.

United only conceded one goal, which by recent standards is impressive. The last clean sheet came on February 26 against Watford.
