Lisandro Martinez, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho celebrate Manchester United win
Manchester United’s players delivered a performance they could be proud of after a painful stretch reflecting on a heavy loss at Brentford.
The long gap between the two games may have worked in United’s favour. Whatever Erik ten Hag said to his players before last night’s win over Liverpool, clearly worked.
Ten Hag made big calls, dropping key players, adopting a more high energy approach. It worked, with United taking an early lead through Jadon Sancho, after Anthony Elanga had hit the post.
Anthony Martial came on at half-time and provided an assist for Marcus Rashford to add a second, making an instant impact in the 2-1 win.

Centre-back Lisandro Martinez was outstanding. He was voted as man of the match by supporters thanks to a tenacious and spirited performance.
He will have won over a few doubters with his display. Jamie Carragher admitted that Martinez had been ‘excellent’.
The Argentine posted on social media after the win, his first ever victory as a Manchester United player.
There was also a smile from Anthony Martial, who was playing in his first game at Old Trafford since a substitute showing against West Ham back in January.
It was encouraging to see him make a quick impact, and he was tracking back and playing deep as the game went on.
Jadon Sancho also sent a message out on social media after scoring his first goal of the season.
He was delighted to play a key role in helping the team get all three points, the first victory of many in 2022/23.
