Andy Cole praises Jadon Sancho after goal and assist as Manchester United draw 2-2 with Aston Villa
United were 2-0 up at the interval, as Sancho opened the scoring by volleying home Luke Shaw’s cross after a smart, quick team move.
Sancho then set up Marcus Rashford just before the break, only for the England man to scuff his shot into Matty Cash, who diverted it into his own net.
And Sancho created United’s best opening of a second half where they were under the cosh, squaring from the right and almost forcing another own goal, but substitute goalkeeper Robin Olsen kept the ball out of the net.
Cole praises Sancho display against Villa
Speaking about Sancho’s goal, Cole said: “He made it look very easy.
“We all hope he can keep that form into the new season. 100 per cent. We’re all wanting that.
“We want to see this during pre-season, going into the new season, that confidence, picking the ball up and running at people.
“Creating chances for his teammates, that’s what we want to see. (For the second), if there’s no run from Jadon Sancho, that goal does not happen. That run off the right is so direct.”
Sancho’s first pre-season at United was delayed by Euro 2020, which ended in huge disappointment and then interrupted by fitness issues.
This time around has been smoother, with the wideman able to report for the very first day of training under Erik ten Hag.
That is because he was not involved in the Nations League with England and Sancho must be fired up to get back into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup.
He is showing the right signs now; the big test will be whether he can do it once the serious stuff starts next month.
