Fred was a notable recall to Manchester United’s starting line up last night against Crystal Palace.
It was the Brazilian’s first game since the FA Cup win over Reading, and first Premier League game since December’s win over Huddersfield.
His selection did not harm United, winning 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Romelu Lukaku (2) and Ashley Young grabbed the goals.
Fred began the game nervously, giving the ball away on a number of occasions.
He improved as the match went on, having a better second half than his first.
Garner could be in contention to replace Fred against Southampton this weekend, with Solskjaer talking him up after the game.
The numbersThis was just Fred’s eighth Premier League start of the season, and the first time he has played over 64 minutes of a match since October.
Fred had one shot at goal, which landed off target. He created two goalscoring opportunities.
He had 73 touches, more than any United midfielder, completing 84.5 per cent of his passes.
Defensively he managed three tackles and one interception, giving away one foul.
There was a very split reaction to Fred’s performance. Here is a look at fan reaction on Twitter to his display…

Fair play to Scott Mctominay tonight! Solid performance, especially with Fred as the partner who again was below mediocre #mufc

Fred looked lost and scared to play in 1st half, but in 2nd half, he grows into game and did quite good. Really worried about Alexis, still average. Glad for big Rom’s brace, he needed it. Scotty is my MOTM, he controlled mid area very good. Dalot also good as RW#mufc

Fred a little lost today. Man wasn’t horrible but has a lot to improve still. I have faith in the guy tho! #mufc

Fred grew into the game especially in the 2nd half but Christ his first 20 mins or so we’re very poor. His passing was well off. #MUFC

Fred has been poor again tonight. Don’t see anyway in which he could fit in Ole or even José’ side. Poor transfer decision by the board. #mufc

Fred did OK more so in the second half he was very calm. He just needs a good run of games to get his mojo back. #MUFC
