Manchester United travel to West Ham this afternoon looking to put yet another shambolic week behind them.
The poor performance in the 1-1 home draw with Wolves was followed by an abject display and an EFL Cup exit at the hands of Derby.
Financial figures revealed just how much it is costing to provide such a dysfunctional side and Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba are at loggerheads again.
So, here’s a reminder of better times. Here are three classic away performances against West Ham that United fans would love to see emulated today.
West Ham 3-5 Manchester United – 2002
United fell behind early here, to Steve Lomas’ header, but David Beckham’s exquisite chip drew the sides level.
Fredi Kanoute restored the home side’s advantage, but an acrobatic Nicky Butt effort made it 2-2 after just 21 minutes.
After that, United took over. Paul Scholes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put the game beyond the hosts and Beckham’s second goal of the game, from the spot, completed the scoring.
West Ham 2-4 Manchester United – 2011
Just as in 2002, United got off to a slow start again here. In pursuit of that historic 19th Premier League title, Sir Alex’s side did not play like champions in the first half.

Two Mark Noble penalties were the Hammers’ reward for dominating the first half. The second turned into the Wayne Rooney show.
He kickstarted the fightback on 65 minutes, with a sumptuous curling free kick from 25 yards; giving Rob Green no chance. Eight minutes later, United were level.
Rooney killed Antonio Valencia’s pass into the box dead and took Matt Upson out of the game with just one touch; the second dispatched the ball with minimum fuss.
He put United ahead and got his hat-trick from the spot on 79 minutes; before unwisely embarking on a foul-mouth celebratory tirade into the camera. That earned him a two-game ban, ruling him out of the 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat to City.
Current Hammers striker Javier Hernandez rounded off the scoring to keep United on track for number 19.
West Ham 1-2 Manchester United – 2016
After being stunned by a Dimitri Payet free-kick at Old Trafford, United were lucky to earn an FA Cup quarter-final replay en route to winning the competition in 2016.
Still in his nascent spell as a United first-teamer, Marcus Rashford lit up the game following a goalless first half.
Anthony Martial pounced on Ander Herrera’s interception and fed Rashford, who had the home defence petrified instantly.
He headed for goal and after a cute feint bought a yard of space, curled a pearler into the far corner via the crossbar. It was yet another sign of the talent United had on their hands.
Marouane Fellaini bundled home 13 minutes later to ensure James Tomkins’ late strike was just a consolation; United booked a semi-final spot at Wembley.
