Transfer target Trippier and Maguire's international link-up could prove fruitful for United
England are into the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 after a 2-0 win over Germany last night.
Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw started the game in Gareth Southgate’s back five and the former was named man of the match.
Midway through the game, a stat emerged which underlined the relationship the United skipper has with another England teammate – Kieran Trippier.
This summer and at World Cup 2018, Trippier has created nine chances for Maguire to score.
He created 27 in total, with Maguire connecting with nine of them.
Trippier a reported target
This is relevant to United because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked with a swoop for Trippier this summer.
Bringing in the England man from Atletico Madrid would give United a more attacking option at right-back.
We also saw what the competition provided by Alex Telles did for Luke Shaw last season.
Something similar might push Aaron Wan-Bissaka on to new heights on the other side of defence.
Trippier’s arrival would give United another dimension at set-pieces, which is where most of his key passes to Maguire have likely originated from.
The pair have now been to two major tournaments together, and know each other’s game well now too.
Maguire could help Trippier settle in at Old Trafford and perhaps their partnership forms part of Solskjaer’s thinking.
For now, Trippier and Maguire will be focusing on helping England get past Ukraine on Saturday night and into the semi-final of the Euros.
