United loanee Galbraith suffers 5-0 defeat with Northern Ireland U21s

Manchester United loanee Ethan Galbraith’s tough season continued on international duty with Northern Ireland Under-21s.

Galbraith was named as captain for last night’s friendly clash with France in Calais Stade de l’Épopée.

But it was a chastening night for Galbraith and his teammates, as they were resoundingly beaten 5-0 on the night.

Northern Ireland managed to keep the score down to 1-0 going into half-time, trailing to a goal by Yasser Larouci, who used to play for Liverpool.

But the wheels came off on 65 minutes, with four goals going in over the space of 11 minutes, to make it a night captain Galbraith would rather forget.

Galbraith actually has two senior appearances to his name but has dropped into the Under-21s during what has been a tricky season.

We wrote last month that it looks like Galbraith is going to experience relegation from League 1 at the end of his loan spell with Doncaster.

They are currently four points adrift of safety, having played two games more than Fleetwood, who sit in the safety of 20th place in the third tier.

Galbraith recently said he has been enjoying his loan spell, which is the first time he has played away from Old Trafford.

He will certainly build character from it, as well as nights like last night, and he just has to keep his confidence high at a difficult time for club and country.
