Tyrell Malacia congratulates Charlie McNeill on impressive performance for u21s

Manchester United youngster Charlie McNeill scored his first goal of the season for the under-21s in the win over Carlisle.

McNeill’s opener set United on course to a 2-1 win. Omari Forson scored the winner, from a McNeill assist.

The goal was McNeill’s 41st at academy level since joining in 2020, and netting in front of 3,000 fans was a great way to open his account for the season.

McNeill’s goal came after an assist from Alejandro Garnacho, with the pair re-forming their FA Youth Cup winning partnership.

Tyrell Malacia congratulates Charlie McNeill

McNeill was delighted to get on the scoresheet as he looks to try and further catch the eye of first team boss Erik ten Hag.

McNeill has trained with the first team already in July and August and Ten Hag is right to run the rule over him with the club’s current shortage of strike options.

McNeill’s message on Instagram was followed by numerous supportive messages from his under-21 teammates, and first team star Tyrell Malacia.

Zidane Iqbal was the star of the show with four chances created during the 2-1 victory. But McNeill’s performance was encouraging too.

The under-21s take on Liverpool in the on Saturday, looking for a first league win of the season after two defeats and two draws. This midweek cup victory was just what was needed.
