It was perhaps one of the most unexpected twists in transfer deadline week which saw Paul Pogba linked with a move to Barcelona.
However, French journalist Julien Laurens has rubbished the claims, stating that Pogba hasn’t asked to leave and doesn’t want more money, as some have indicated is the case due to the timing of the rumour.
The quotes, which can be seen in the embedded tweet below, state with certainty that the United midfielder is not engineering an exit from Old Trafford.
Laurens believes that the speculation is all the work of Mino Raiola, who saw an opportunity following Pogba’s fine World Cup, to raise the profile of his star client.
Julien Laurens: “Paul Pogba is happy at United. He does not want to leave United, he hasn’t asked to leave. He hasn’t asked for more money. Maybe Mino Raiola wants Pogba to move from United. But Pogba is happy to be there.” #mufc [ESPN] pic.twitter.com/ZiGsvGL4K7

Manchester United’s own briefing to the speculation was to shut it down completely, with sources telling the media that the player is not for sale.
