Report: This Seven Goal Italian Striker Is ‘At Top Of Manchester United Scouting List’

Torino striker Andrea Belotti is reportedly the striker most interesting Manchester United.

United are set to lose Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the end of the season and Duncan Castles, a known Jose Mourinho aide, has reported that the Swede may even depart before the end of the campaign, with US and Chinese teams expressing an interest.

And Castles says that Belotti is “understood to remain at the top of a list drawn up by United’s scouting department despite the 24-year-old’s goal return at Torino dropping off this season”. Belotti has scored just seven goals in all competitions, with four of those coming in the league, but the Italian remains one of the most highly-rated forwards around, with Chelsea another side rumoured to be interested.

Castles suggests that Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford may be given an opportunity to play in a more central position so that Mourinho may actually seek to bring in a left-wing specialist. United were interested in Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic over the summer but that interest has apparently cooled.

Belotti has 77 goals in his club career and has scored 4 times in 13 games for Italy. Torino President Urbano Cairo has claimed that Andrea Belotti’s €100m release clause “will be low if he goes back” to scoring goals at a prolific rate.

“Exaggerated prices for Italians?” said Cairo. “It’s the market that dictates the prices. If Coutinho is sold for €160m then perhaps, if Belotti goes back to doing what he usually does, [his release clause] will be low.”
